Production of fuel oil from waste asphalt at airports through Bioconversion: Black Top to Black Gold
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) is a critical concern for airports worldwide, as even small objects on a runway can have disastrous consequences. In addition, every time a new strip is re-laid, large amount of waste asphalt is generated. A conventional method of reusing waste is to mix it in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) to form what is known as Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP). Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), USA does not allow use of RAP for re-laying airway strips.
